The Sierra Leone Web

 

Between 1943 and 1945, Arthur Atterbury served in the Royal Air Force as a radio operator with the Air Sea Rescue Unit, based in Freetown. The photos below stem from his time in Sierra Leone, when he would have been from 18 to 20 years of age. Arthur Atterbury passed away in 2007, and in 2018 his son Laurence provided the pictures to the Sierra Leone Web.
