Mankind's Failing Pursuit
We read of times in which mankind has sought
A place that places selfishness beyond
Where all the violent, contending sorts
Belong; having been bound and braced in bond
To sustain boundless, lasting peace -
Through generations gone till those unborn.
Some dreams won with worthless wounds incurred promise
A chance which prospect blurs and makes us morn
For this one place that still remains not found.
The world’s nations will merge with great vigor,
It shall remain a merely wishful sound
Such that modern improvement in the rigor
Of knowledge will fail to penetrate through,
Nor could we tell when such wish shall come true.
Is the pursuit of world peace really worth the effort?
